Lando Norris took pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix. He beat Max Verstappen in Saturday night’s qualifying session. The session was interrupted by a crash for Carlos Sainz at the start of Q3.
McLaren driver Norris set a time of 1m 29.525s in a one-lap shootout. He was a couple of tenths faster than Verstappen's Red Bull. He was also a tenth ahead of the Mercedes drivers.
Lewis Hamilton bounced back from recent struggles to take third. He beat his team mate George Russell. Oscar Piastri of McLaren had to settle for fifth.
Ferrari had a bad end to qualifying when Sainz crashed into the wall. He ended up 10th. Charles Leclerc was ninth, but his time was deleted for track limits.
Nico Hulkenberg was sixth for Haas, showing his usual skill. Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda also benefited from Ferrari's troubles, finishing seventh and eighth.
Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto almost made it to Q3 for Williams. They ended up 11th and 12th. Albon was frustrated with a lack of grip.
Before Sainz's crash, Sergio Perez had trouble in Q2. He ended up 13th, ahead of Kevin Magnussen and Esteban Ocon.
Daniel Ricciardo looked to make a comeback after a strong practice. But a bad Q1 lap left him 16th. He had to take an early qualifying ice bath.
Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly couldn't keep up with their team mates. They took 17th and 18th spots. Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu were last in the Kick Saubers.
