Queen Elizabeth's new statue, unveiled beside Prince Philip's, blasted as ‘offensive’: ‘Looks utterly ridiculous’’

A new bronze statue of the late Queen Elizabeth II has sparked controversy. Many think it doesn't resemble the monarch. It was unveiled on September 6 in Antrim Castle Gardens in Northern Ireland, next to a statue of Prince Philip. Philip and Elizabeth were married for over 70 years. Philip passed away at 99 in 2021, and Elizabeth at 96 in 2022.

The statue also includes the Queen's two beloved corgis. It was crafted by local artist Anto Brennan, commissioned by the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

The council's website describes the statue. It says it shows the Queen in a dignified pose, reflecting her grace and dedication. The sculpture stands next to Prince Philip's statue, showing their unity in life.

The statue depicts the Queen in a skirt and boots, with a scarf and purse.

Photos of the statue were shared on Facebook by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough. The caption explains, “This sculpture is one of the first in the UK to honor Her Late Majesty. It stands next to Prince Philip's statue in Antrim Castle Gardens for everyone to see.”
